Michael Page blickar mot potentiell Leon Edwards-kamp

Den nytillkomne UFC-welterviktaren Michael Page har redan uttryckt ett intresse av att möta den regerande mästaren i divisionen Leon Edwards. Enligt Page, skulle de två kunna mötas som huvudmatch under en gala i deras hemnation.

Michael ”Venom” Page (21-2) kommer genomföra sin UFC-debut nu till helgen. Han möter Kevin ”Trailblazer” Holland (25-10, 1 NC) under UFC 299. Trots att debutmatchen enbart ligger några dagar framför honom, har Page blickarna på en framtida kamp som han visualiserat samt diskuterat med den regerande mästaren i welterviktsdivisionen Leon ”Rocky” Edwards (22-3, 1 NC). MVP beskriver en match de två emellan som viktig, inte bara för dem utan även för hela den brittiska MMA-scenen.

Holland ett svårt motstånd

I en intervju nyligen beskriver Michael Page hur han blev informerad av UFC att det inte var en lätt debutmotståndare som väntade honom. MVP säger dock att Kevin Holland är den perfekta första kampen i oktogonen. Bland annat beskriver han ”Trailblazer” som både tålig och underhållande.

The UFC isn’t like, ‘we’re going to warm you up and give you someone that’s not rated or new to the game.’ Holland is the perfect guy, he’s game, he is tough as nails, entertaining and I’m a fan of him, as well. I always love to take myself to one side and just be a fan of the sport. There are certain guys that I just watch their fights and they’ve had some epic fights and I’m a fan of him from that perspective.

It’s not really just the fight, it’s more about the occasion, but Leon Edwards. I’m cool with him, there’s no bad blood there, but like I said, we’re prizefighters at the end of the day. We also spoke about what was happening in the UK and what’s happening for the UK right now.

Så som Page visualiserar en match mot ”Rocky”, skulle den äga rum på brittisk mark. Oavsett vem som skulle vinna kampen, kommer bältet stanna på deras sida av Atlanten, förklarar han. Han säger även att en sådan match skulle vara mycket betydelsefull för MMA i Storbritannien.

I can already foresee me, Leon Edwards, in a stadium in the UK, and regardless of what happens, the result on that day, the belt stays with the UK at the end of it and that excites me. Not even for my myself, but for what it is going to mean to the UK.
