Colby Covington söker Paddy Pimblett-matchning

UFC-veteranen i weltervikt Colby Covington vill möta Paddy Pimblett härnäst. 37-åringen anser sig ha mer att utöva i organisationen. Dock kommer han söka ”Hall of Fame”-matcher framöver, varav Pimblett är en, säger Covington.

Colby ”Chaos” Covington (17-5) gick senast match i december förra året. Där förlorade han mot Joaquin ”New Mansa” Buckley (21-7) i hans första kamp på ett år. Förlusten blev den tredje på fyra matcher för Covington, som idag står långt ifrån sina glansdagar i UFC som topprankad welterviktare och flertalig titelutmanare. Kamplusten ska dock fortfarande finnas i den 37-årige amerikanen. Han letar nu efter sin nästa match i UFC, där han bland annat pekat ut Englands Paddy ”The Baddy” Pimblett (23-3) som önskad motståndare.

”Vikt-mobbare”

I en intervju nyligen förklarar Colby Covington hur han har mer att ge i sin UFC-karriär. Han vill dock bara ha vad han beskriver som ”stora matcher”. Covington pekar ut Paddy Pimblett som ett namn han gärna ställs emot i oktogonen. Han anser att Pimblett har ett ganska välkänt namn i sporten, samt klandrar Pimblett för att utnyttja sin storlek i lättviktsdivisionen.

I’m not done with the UFC. I still have some unfinished business, but I want big fights. High-level, first-ballot Hall-of-Famer type fights. Legacy fights. I think the Paddy Pimblett fight is interesting. He’s got a little bit of a name right now, but only because he’s got an English accent and a bowl cut. He’s actually bigger than me, he’s a weight bully. He cuts a lot of weight.

Det finns dock fler som tycks vara intresserade av att möta ”Paddy the Baddy” i en match. Den nykrönte lättviktsmästaren Ilia ”El Matador” Topuria (17-0) har också lyft fram Pimbletts namn. Enligt honom vill många UFC-fans se de två mötas, även om Topuria tror det blir en mycket enkel match för honom.
