Khalil Rountree Jr. beskriver Alex Pereira som den ”slutgiltiga bossen” i MMA

Den senaste titelutmanaren i UFC:s lätta tungviktsdivision Khalil Rountree Jr. har givit en genomgång av hans förlustmatch mot mästaren Alex Pereira. Där beskriver han brasilianaren som en ”final boss”. På annat håll, har den topprankade Jamahal Hill kommit ut och förklarat sitt gäspande under UFC 307.

Khalil “The War Horse” Rountree Jr. (13-6, 1 NC) fick se sig själv förlorad via TKO under UFC 307. Den 34-årige amerikanen mäktade inte med att besegra den regerande mästaren i lätt tungvikt, Alex ”Poatan” Pereira (12-2). Enligt Rountree Jr. fick han känslan av att möta en ”final boss” när han stod inne i oktogonen med brasilianaren. Trots en matchplan inför titelmatchen, kunde han inte rå på Pereiras kampsinne, förklarar ”The War Horse”

“Final boss”

I en intervju nyligen beskriver Khalil Rountree Jr. hur han upplevde titelkampen mot Alex Pereira. Han berättar bland annat hur han inte fick den effekt som han hade förväntat när han lyckades få in en träff på sin motståndare. Det faktum att Pereira ständigt anpassade sig utefter hans framgångar var en ledande faktor till förlusten, förklarar Rountree Jr.

When I hit him with that right hook after the high kick that he threw, and I dropped him a little bit, I saw his eyes. He went back and was just stone-faced. I was like ‘Man, this guy is a real-life final boss’. Going in there, I knew I would be able to touch him. That’s what we were really banking on, being able to connect with him and being smart when we connect.

I think, one thing that is pretty underrated that I got to experience for myself, is his IQ man. His ability to mix up the strategy mid-fight, in between rounds. Round one, round two, I won. But he just kept making adjustments. As stoic as he is and as stone-faced as he is, he’s got a smart brain for sure.

Inte en tråkig match

Något som blev uppmärksammat under kampen mellan Pereira och Rountree Jr. var den topprankade lätta tungviktaren Jamahal ”Sweet Dreams” Hills (12-2, 1 NC) reaktion. Videokamerorna lyckades fånga Hill mitt uppe i en gäspning. Det här var dock inte till följd av att han fann matchen tråkig, förklarade Hill nyligen. Samtidigt berättar han att han inte var imponerad och säger sig vara redo att gå en returmatch med Pereira.

It’s crazy how y’all see a clip with no context, no nothing, and y’all just be ready to talk shit and just attack and come disrespectful as ever. It’s hilarious. Wasn’t mic’d up or anything like that, so I couldn’t explain the context of the yawn and things like that after the fight.

I think I did hear a reporter told Alex, ‘Oh, Jamahal said the fight was boring.’ I never said the fight was boring. Now, to the yawn, the yawn at the end, was it entertaining? Yes. Was I impressed? No. I’m not impressed. You know, I’m ready to go.
