Leon Edwards hoppas på titelutmaning vid vinst över Sean Brady

UFC-welterviktaren Leon Edwards möter Sean Brady den i en kamp den 22 mars. Matchen blir ett toppmöte i welterviktsdivisionen. Skulle Edwards vinna mötet, hoppas han på att få gå en titelkamp därefter mot mästaren Belal Muhammad.

Leon Edwards tar återigen sikte på welterviktsbältet

Leon ”Rocky” Edwards (22-4, 1 NC) kommer gå sin första match för 2025 i slutänden av den här månaden. Han kommer ställas mot USA:s Sean Brady (17-1) under en gala i London, England. De två männen kliver in i oktogonen som huvudmatch.

I dagsläget är Edwards rankad nummer ett i UFC:s welterviktsdivision, medan Brady ligger på en femteplats i rankningen. Skulle Edwards mäkta med att besegra amerikanen, hoppas han på att det leder till en titelutmaning i viktklassen. Mästaren Belal ”Remember The Name” Muhammad (24-3, 1 NC) är dock inte alltför inställd på att gå en tredje kamp med engelsmannen riktigt än.

Vill ha titelmatch vid vinst

I en intervju nyligen beskriver Leon Edwards att han fört samtal med UFC rörande en framtida titelutmaning i weltervikt. Enligt honom ska organisationen ha lovat en kamp om bältet för den som vinner mellan Edwards och Brady.

I heard about my replacement fight probably, like, a couple of weeks before. I’d been in talks with the UFC, I was trying to step in to fight Belal, but I know that they sold London around me, so it would be difficult to take me off the card and leave Jack on the card. It would be weird to let Jack headline London.

So we got a new opponent, Sean Brady, it’s a style that I’m used to. It’s a style that I’m comfortable fighting. So I’m looking forward to it, should be good. I spoke to the UFC. They told me that after this win, this is a No. 1 contender fight. Whoever wins this, fights for the title. Well, when I win this I fight for the title. That is my aim.

My aim is to get back that two-time world championship. Everyone knew the result of the fight with me and Belal, everyone knew that wasn’t me. That was fighting at home, 5 a.m. in the morning. There’s a lot of things that went into it that played a part in the performance. So I can’t wait to get back in there and just set everything right and I think it all starts with Sean Brady.

Welterviktstitelhållaren Belal Muhammad har dock invändningar. Han vill se att den obesegrade Shavkat ”Nomad” Rakhmonov (19-0) får gå kamp om bältet innan en titelutmaning kommer på tal för ”Rocky”.

I don’t know what Leon is thinking. Leon, you have three to four years before you can even think about getting a rematch. It’s going to be a long, a long three years of fighting contenders for Leon. I have the next guy in line anyway, I think it’s Shavkat.

There’s nothing he can do, I think, to skip Shavkat. I wouldn’t allow that to even happen with Leon. Yeah, he can go out there and land a cartwheel kick, spinning backfist, and I’m still going to put ‘Lol, he still sucks’.
