Tom Aspinall fokuserar på ersättarrollen till UFC 309

Interim-mästaren i UFC:s tungviktsdivision Tom Aspinall står redo att kliva in under UFC 309. Galan är planerad att innehålla en titelkamp i viktklassen mellan mästaren Jon Jones och Stipe Miocic. Aspinall, som sägs vara designerad ersättare, har förhoppningar på att få tävla under galan.

Tom Aspinall förbereder sig för kamp i november

I november är det planerat att UFC:s tungviktsmästare Jon ”Bones” Jones (27-1, 1 NC) skall genomföra sitt första försvar av bältet. Han är tänkt att möta den tidigare titelhållaren i divisionen Stipe Miocic (20-4) i huvudmatchen under UFC 309. En intressant aspekt av matchen är att en ”inhoppare” förväntas stå redo. Detta utifall att antingen Jones eller Miocic drar sig ur. Det handlar då om interim-mästaren i tungvikt Tom ”Honey badger” Aspinall (15-3).

Aspinall har besuttit interim-bältet sedan november förra året. Han har även gått en kamp sedan dess, vilken han vann via knockout över Curtis ”Razor” Blaydes (18-5, 1 NC) i juli månad det här året. Den engelske 31-åringen säger sig nu vara inställd på en titelmatch i sitt nästa oktogonframträdande, vilket skulle kunna bli under UFC 309.

Tränar för titelkamp

I en intervju nyligen beskriver Tom Aspinall att i dagsläget tränar inför en kommande titelkamp. Han vet dock inte när det blir av, men har fokuset på sin roll som ersättare till UFC-galan i november.

It’s been all good but we’re back to it now. Just trying to get a fight mate. I just want my chance to fight for the undisputed title. Of course, that’s the next natural progression from interim and also, it’s a dream fight for me so obviously I’m going to push for it. We’re still waiting and still training with that in mind; as far as I am concerned, I am training to fight potentially in November so no matter what happens, I’ll be fit and ready to go in November.

Även om han inte fått bekräftelse på rollen som officiell ersättare än, skall Aspinall ha fått besked om att han är tänkt att vara det. Han säger sig ha tron på att Jones vs. Miocic blir av. Då kommer han vara redo att kliva in som inhoppare, förklarar ”Honey bagder”.

No confirmation of the fight yet, no confirmation if I am the backup fighter yet, they did tell me that after my last fight against Curtis Blaydes, the heavyweight title fight between Stipe and Jon Jones isn’t official yet so we’re still waiting. But I have the faith, I have the faith, and I think Jon’s getting a bit ticked off with me at the minute, which is my intention.

I’m trying to test his ego to see if he’ll be like ‘Right, actually I’m going to show you’. That’s what I’m working on at the moment and it does seem like Jon’s getting a little bit fuming with me, so it would be nice if he could continue that. He might be trolling everybody, who knows?
