Colby Covington: Leon Edwards hör hemma på de preliminära korten

UFC-welterviktaren Colby Covington anser att viktklasskollegan Leon Edwards bör gå matcher på preliminära kort framöver. Edwards förlorade nyligen welterviktsbältet till Belal Muhammad under UFC 304. Enligt Covington beror förlusten på att Edwards inte har någon hunger kvar efter att ha blivit välbetald följande deras kamp i slutet av 2023.

Covington ser förlorad status hos Edwards

Den ständiga provokatören i UFC:s welterviktsdivision Colby ”Chaos” Covington (17-4) har åter en gång uttalat sig om en viktklasskollega. Den här gången är det den nyligen avsatte kungen över divisionen Leon ”Rocky” Edwards (22-4, 1 NC) som hamnat i Covingtons sikte.

”Chaos” var inte imponerad av engelsmannens prestation i titelkampen under UFC 304 och kritiserar bland annat Edward för att inte ha någon motivation kvar. Covington vill även se att ”Rocky” återvänder till att gå kamper på de preliminära korten.

Ingen hunger kvar

I en intervju nyligen påstår Colby Covington att Leon Edwards förlorat sin hunger till att slåss. Detta efter att den tidigare welterviktsmästaren fick se sitt bankkonto bukta följande kampen med Covington från 2023. Han fortsätter med att beskriva Edwards som en fighter utan någon kampvilja efter ett nederlag.

Just because I know that Leon made so much money in the last fight with me, that I don’t think he’s hungry anymore. I think he’s lost his motivation. He has nothing more to fight for. What is he fighting for? He’s already achieved everything that he’s set out to do

He’s reached the top of the mountain. He’s not the type of guy that’s going to get knocked down, get back up and fight harder. He’s a quitter. He’s shown it in the past, and you can tell he just doesn’t have that hunger anymore.

I don’t know what happened in the fight or how the fight went, but I could just tell you that I knew Leon wasn’t going to be motivated. I think that’s the last we saw of him. Now Leon can go back to the prelims where he belongs.

Gör ‘vad som helst’ för Muhammad-matchning

En annan welterviktare som Covington passar på att gå efter är den nyblivne mästaren i weltervikt Belal ”Remember The Name” Muhammad (24-3, 1 NC). Covington säger sig se Muhammad som en ynkrygg och önskar att få möta sin landsman i oktogonen, avslutar han.
