Dana White kritiserar Waldo Cortes-Acosta för insats i senaste kampen

Under den gångna helgens UFC-gala i St. Louis, Missouri, besegrade tungviktaren Waldo Cortes-Acosta sin motståndare Robelis Despaigne. Vinsten kom via enhälligt beslut efter tre ronder av kamp. Trots segern, säger sig UFC:s VD Dana White vara besviken över hur Cortes-Acosta utkämpade matchen.

Dana White missnöjd med Cortes-Acosta

UFC-bossen Dana White fick se många fina matcher under den gala som ägde rum i St. Louis under natten till söndagen svensk tid. Matchkortet var fyllt med de tyngre slagskämparna i organisationen, där både kamper i lätt tungvikt och tungvikt utkämpades. En av de matcher som dock inte imponerade på White var den mellan Waldo ”Salsa Boy” Cortes-Acosta (12-1) och den relativa UFC-nykomlingen Robelis ”The Bad Boy” Despaigne (5-1). Matchen de två emellan, som gick alla tre ronder ut, vanns av Cortes-Acosta via enhälligt beslut.

Ifrågasätter utkämpandet av matchen

Under presskonferensen som följde helgens UFC-gala fick Dana White frågan om vad han tyckte om Waldo Cortes-Acostas vinst. White förklarar att han var besviken över hur ”Salsa Boy” valde att utkämpa kampen. Om organisationen delade ut pris för den sämsta matchen på kortet, skulle det gå till Cortes-Acosta vs. Despaigne, avslutar han.

I think that everybody who won tonight came out and delivered, I think that when you get the type of fans that you have here and you have the energy, I mean from the first fight of the night this place was almost full and the people were in there going crazy.

When you have this type of atmosphere and fans like here in St. Louis, it takes everybody to the next level. Except that fight. He won, but if you had to pick out of all the fights on the card, and you open the show heading into the main card when we’re live on ESPN, you’re opening the show means it’s your time to shine and show everybody who you are and that’s your performance?

I don’t know. If you go through the card and I was going to give out a bonus for shittiest fight of the night, who would you guys give it to? Yeah, everybody’s in agreement that it’s Cortes-Acosta vs Despaigne.

Cortes-Acosta siktar på klättring i rankningen

Cortes-Acosta var dock nöjd med sin vinst och tog tillfället  akt att utmana Jairzinho ”Bigi Boy” Rozenstruik (14-5) i sin post-fight intervju. Enligt Cortes-Acosta är det hög tid för honom att börja klättra i rankningen. Således är den nummer 11-rankade Rozenstruik den han ställer in siktet på, förklarar ”Salsa Boy”.

I tamed the beast, that being said in the beginning he was very aggressive but we’re there, we were able to control him and control him throughout. This is the time for me to continue my ascension and continue my rise, and I’m going for #11, Jairzinho Rozenstruik, let’s do this. I want to show people how much I’ve developed my striking, but I want to do one of those bloody fights and I think this would be the one with Jairzinho.
