Dan Hooker: Mindre intresserad av Dustin Poirier returmatch

UFC-lättviktaren Dan Hooker säger sig inte vara lika intresserad av en returmatch mot Dustin Poirier som innan. Detta då Poirier meddelat att han överväger att avsluta karriären. Hooker säger att han inte vill ha en kamp med någon som är på väg ut ur sporten.

Dan Hooker spekulerar kring nästa motståndare

Dan ”The Hangman” Hooker (24-12) gick senast kamp i augusti månad. Där lyckades han finna sin tredje seger på raken i UFC. Nu planerar nyzeeländaren att återvända till oktogonen i början av nästa år, där en i dagsläget okänd motståndare väntar.

Hooker säger sig vara intresserad i att möta antingen Justin ”The Highlight” Gaethje (25-5) eller ”Notorious” Conor McGregor (22-6). Ett namn som dock inte tycks locka honom lika mycket är Dustin ”The Diamond” Poirier (30-9, 1 NC).

Mindre intresserad av Poirier

I en intervju nyligen förklarar Dan Hooker hur hans namn har nämnts av flertalet lättviktare den senaste tiden. Bland dem finner man Justin Gaethje, som Hooker gärna går en kamp emot. Att dock en tidigare motståndare till ”The Hangman” i Dustin Poirier också visat ett intresse är inte lika exalterande, säger han. Detta då Hooker inte vill ”sparka på någon” på väg ut ur sporten.

Yeah, well I have had a lot of the guys in the top five, that’s the funny thing about it, I’ve had a lot of guys in the top five say my name. I’m mentioned in an interim title, Gaethje mentioned my name, Poirier mentioned my name. I’m keen on any of these fights, Arman is booked for the fight. Dustin, I don’t know.

He laid his gloves down in his last fight and he’s saying he’ll do another one as a retirement fight. I don’t know I’m not really interested in kicking someone on the way out the door. Gaethje, obviously that a fight fan dream. That’s something new, that’s something the fans have wanted to see for a long time and finally, it makes sense

Om dock en kamp med Poirier skulle bli aktuellt, skulle Hooker tacka ja.

Well, he has the door half closed. Obviously, I’ll take the fight, obviously, he’s a huge name, he’s ranked ahead of me, and he kicked my ass. I want that back. I would fight someone for any of those reasons, for the money, for the rankings for kicking my ass and he did all three.

En annan fajter som Hooker gärna skulle möta i oktogonen tillhör superstjärnan Conor McGregor. Enligt Hooker skall hans manager i dagsläget befinna sig i närhet till UFC:s matchmakers. Han kan således lova att han har ett namn på sin nästa motståndare i slutet på veckan.

I’m fighting early next year. I told the UFC either January or March, and it will be someone in the top five, or Conor McGregor. That’ll be who I’ll be stepping in the cage with come January or March of next year. I know my manager is in Saudi, he’s with Volk. He’ll get to talk to Hunter and Sean so I’m sure by the end of this weekend, or when he comes back from Saudi Arabia, I’ll have my next fight pencilled in. I’ll have a name and a date by the end of this weekend.
