Dricus Du Plessis ser ingen ”glöd” i Israel Adesanya

Den regerande mellanviktsmästaren i UFC Dricus Du Plessis är tveksam över viktklasskollegan Israel Adesanyas kampvilja. Enligt Du Plessis saknar Adesanya den glöd som en gång infann sig hos den tidigare titelhållaren. Han tror även att Adesanya kommer att pensionera sig följande deras kamp under UFC 305.  

Du Plessis saknar glöden i Adesanya

Den 17:e augusti kommer två fighters i mellanviktstoppen i UFC att ta upp till kamp. Det handlar då om den regerande mästaren Dricus ”Stillknocks” Du Plessis  (21-2) och en tidigare titelhållaren Israel ”The Last Stylebender” Adesanya (24-3). De två männen kommer att gå huvudmatchen under UFC 305 där bältet i divisionen står på spel.

Matchen blir även Du Plessis första titelförsvar som mästare. Inför den stundande kampen känner sig sydafrikanen gott till mods. Han säger bland annat att han inte ser den glöd i Adesanyas ögon som en gång var där.

Inget mer att slåss för

I en intervju nyligen beskriver Dricus Du Plessis hur han ser sin motståndare till UFC 305 Israel Adesanya som utan motivation att slåss. Bland annat saknar ”The Last Stylebender” glöden i ögonen, förklarar Du Plessis. Han säger även att Adesanya inte har något kvar att slåss för i UFC.

I honestly believe that it comes down to seeing the hunger and the fire inside someone’s eyes, and I don’t see that. I don’t remember him saying he was retiring, but it almost gave off that and everybody would’ve understood that.

He did what he had to do in the sport and he has reached the pinnacle of what he’s going to reach in his career when it comes down to his winning streak and defending the belt, he’s never going to have that again, he doesn’t have the time to beat that so what is he doing this for?

Förväntar sig pensionering

Du Plessis fortsätter och beskriver hur han förväntar sig se Adesanya gå i pension följande deras kamp i augusti. ”Stillknocks” förutspår även en knockout av sin motståndare om Adesanya är mottaglig för samma smäll han fick i sin senaste kamp.

I think retiring is something he’ll do himself, whether I win or not. I’m going out there to beat him, that’s why I’m going out there. Whether he retires or not, that’s got nothing to do with me, I’m there to win that fight.

If I land that shot that Sean Strickland landed, the fight was over right there, 100%. We know Strickland isn’t a power puncher, Strickland is an incredibly good boxer, very awkward and amazing jab, he throws out the 1-2 and he does it great, but he doesn’t have that starch power. If I catch him with that shot, it’s over.
