Managern: ’Mycket möjligt’ att Conor McGregor går kamp om lättviktsbältet

Lättviktsmästaren i UFC Islam Makhachevs manager Ali Abdelaziz har uttalat sig om en potentiell kamp mellan hans klient och superstjärnan Conor McGregor. Enligt Abdelaziz, är det definitivt något som skulle kunna bli möjligt.

Makhachev vs. McGregor?

Den kontroversielle om än effektiva MMA-managern Ali Abdelaziz har representerat en mängd av prominenta UFC-fighters. En av de som står särskilt högt i status i dagsläget är den regerande lättviktsmästaren Islam Makhachev (26-1). Den 32-årige ryssen har hittills försvarat sitt bälte tre gånger och står idag med en imponerande vinstsvit på fjorton raka segrar i organisationen.

När man talar om UFC och lättviktsdivisionen finns det dock ett annat namn som möjligen glänser lite starkare i sin stjärnstatus än Makhachev. Det handlar då om Irlands ”Notorious” Conor McGregor (22-6).

McGregor kommer att gå kamp under UFC 303 i slutet av den här månaden, där han tar sig an Michael ”Iron” Chandler (23-8). Följande den matchen, om McGregor skulle komma att segra, kan det bli aktuellt med en titelutmaning mot Makhachev, säger Abdelaziz.

Makhachev intresserad i McGregor-kamp

I en intervju nyligen beskriver Ali Abdelaziz hur hans klient Islam Makhachev skulle vara intresserad i att gå en match med Conor McGregor. Om McGregor knockar Michael Chandler i den första ronden och utmanar Makhachev, finns det inte mycket som skulle tala emot att de två möts i oktogonen, säger han.

It’s a crazy sport, Conor might go in there and knockout Chandler in the first round, and then you know he’s one of the biggest stars in the sport. Like him or hate him, he is. If he tells the UFC ‘Hey, I want a title shot, Islam wants a title shot’, that can be your next title shot. Islam is not going to say no, he’s not going to say no to this fight.

It’s a big fight, it’s a big name, it’s a lot more money and at the end of the day, people fight for legacy but if they’re not getting paid then they’re not going to fight. It’s about making money, that is what it is. The guy’s a massive star, I think he’s a piece of shit but he is a massive star, you can’t take this away from him.

If there’s one thing that I know about Dana White is that he likes money and he likes business, that’s why the UFC is so big right now. They’re great minds at the UFC and they put on the biggest fights where they can sell the most PPV’s, so why not? Listen, it’s very possible but you know, Conor has to get off the bottle and he has to leave the drugs alone and focus. He’s a two-division champion and he has talent, but is the hard work there or not.
