Tyron Woodley planerar återkomst till MMA

Den forne mästaren i UFC:s welterviktsdivision Tyron Woodley planerar att göra en återkomst till sporten. Woodley lämnade UFC i 2021 följande en period av dåliga resultat i oktogonen. Nu skall han dock känna sig redo att åter en gång gå matcher i MMA och planerar att ta sig an ett ”stort namn” i sin återkomstkamp.

Woodley inte redo att pensionera sig

Tyron ”The Chosen One” Woodley (19-7-1) har inte gått en MMA-match sedan mars månad 2021. Det sista man fick se av honom i UFC-oktogonen var fyra raka förlustmatcher efter att han även gått miste om sitt welterviktsbälte.

Efter att han lagt MMA-handskarna åt sidan, valde Woodley att ta sig an boxning. Det var dock inte en särskilt lyckad övergång, då han i sin senaste kamp förlorade via knockout. Nu skall dock den 42-årige amerikanen vara redo att återvända till MMA, meddelar han.

Kritiserar yngre MMA-utövare

I en intervju nyligen, där Tyron Woodley förklarade att han vill återvända till MMA som tävlande, tog även den forne mästaren till orda när det kommer till yngre MMA-fighters. Woodley säger sig inte vara imponerad av dem. Han kritiserar bland annat hur dagens aktiva fighters försöker härma eller efterlikna sportens veteraner.

To be quite honest, I feel like the space has gotten a little bit goofy. Most of the fighters that are fighting now are kind of our offspring, they watched us and they’re doing what we did, thinking they’re going to get more notoriety, more money, and increase their brand, but we did what we did because that was us.

I think they need to concentrate on individuality, figuring out what three or four things they do uniquely that people will actually want to watch and amplify those three columns. Not go and try and stream on Twitch or try and put a suit on or try to be a tough guy at a press conference just because somebody else did it. When it’s not authentic or not genuinely you people will recognize it.

Söker ett stort namn

När det kommer till hans återkomstmatch i MMA, skall Woodley ha tankar kring allt från motståndare till plats. Hans primära focus tycks ligga på en match i Mellanöstern, menar han. Woodley vill gärna möta ett av de större namnen från förr och listar ett antal namn som skulle intressera honom.

I like Darren Till, I offered him a big bag to fight in the Middle East and he didn’t know what he wanted to do at that time, so I told him don’t sign the contract. You know what, I actually plan on doing MMA. A lot of fans want to see me fight MMA again and just to be honest, when I was fighting my last couple of MMA fights it was just kind of like a simulation.

The whole APEX arena deal is kind of whack, it’s like a sparring session, I don’t let people come to watch me spar, I don’t like it being in an awkward room, the cage is super small and I just wasn’t motivated to be in a fight at that time.

I’m planning for a big MMA fight, possibly in the Middle East. I offered some big names some big bags. Georges St-Pierre, he said ‘Tyron I appreciate the offer but I’m done with the sport’ and I can’t blame him. I asked Nick Diaz about taking a fight, he liked the comment and what I sent him, but someone of that calibre.
